This was “freaking cool”!

An easy, fun YA read covering some of the most important and exciting times of teenage years.

At first this felt like a modernised version “The perks of being a wallflower” except... Simon isn’t a Wallflower, he is in fact one of the cool dudes at school with good looks and lots of friends.

The story starts with Simon getting blackmailed over email messages from a mysterious gay boy going under the alias of “Blue”.

This made for an engaging read - I did so want to know for sure who Blue would turn out to be!

My rating: In this final volume of The House of Cards trilogy, Michael Dobbs skilfully sends us back to Francis Urquhart’s humble beginnings in the army. As the tides turn, and some ugly truths threaten to surface, FU looks stuck between a rock and a hard place. Is he evil enough to turn the tables as damning evidence starts piling and the political forces finally start turning against him? This was much better than the second in the series. The depictions of Cyprus and its people are vivid, the writing style throughout was almost poetic and brought back fond memories of my own trip to Cyprus some 25 years ago. It also brought the trilogy to a momentous end. Note: all three books in the revised edition are peppered with typos and various other mistakes. This is not reflected in my rating. My rating: « You may have known more about who you were then, than you do now. » In this work of quiet perseverance, author Susan Cain explores in-depth the introversion/extroversion personality trait, and some related theories. She delves into the physiological and psychological make-up of introverts and extraverts in a Western society where the ‘Extrovert Ideal’ has prevailed and we are all expected to sell, even ourselves. The author talks from personal experience, and subjects herself to multiple ‘experiments’, meets with subject matter experts, and interviews introverts over several years. She talks mainly about the US and, to a lesser extent, Asian American population in a bid to introduce cultural differences that promote/demote introversion. There was little reference to gender-specifics, which I expect would account for some of our differences, certainly in today’s western societies.
