Plans for June and new Big Book Summer Challenge Contenders

I am always slow at making up my mind about what to read next, but this is my plan for June:

1. Finish « Life, The Universe and Everything » by Douglas Adams (The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy #3 of The Trilogy of Five)

I started this a few days ago and am making slow progress mostly due to work engagements, and needing sleep. The book is funny and nonsensical in the best of ways and I shall follow up with a review as always. It’s fair to say I throughly enjoyed  both: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy #1 and its sequel The Restaurant at the End of the Road.

2. Read my first 2020 Big Book of the Summer

As you may recall from my Big Book Challenge kick-off post, I am joining in Susan’s Big Book Summer Challenge this year. It’s my first year and I have some exciting news: Africa is calling. An American adventure awaits. That’s right, I shall be starting with “Americanah” by Chimanda Ngozi Adichie - excited already! Thank you all for your advice, I’m holding onto it and there is still loads of time to work out which will be next - Becoming? Tipping the velvet? Swing Time? The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo? You name it – they are all beckoning!

Oh, and I have added a couple more books to my Big Book Summer Challenge list (they were lurking in dark corners like on  my mantelpiece *rolls eyes*):
i. Maeve Binchy: three great novels (904 pages)
ii. Jo Nesbo: The Bat (425 pages)

3. After Americanah, read Shadows of the Worhouse by Jennifer Worth

Can’t wait to return to the Eastend in this sequel to Call the Midwife. As I said, I shall be mixing in shorter reads even if they don’t count towards  my Big Book Summer Challenge - because that’s part of the fun, and unlike other challenges Susan’s is relaxed and chill.

So that’s the plan, let’s see whether I manage to stick to it and get my first Big Book under my belt before June 15. Fingers crossed!

Have a great week-end and happy reading everyone!

  1. Sounds like an outstanding reading plan for June! I have wanted to read Americanah ever since its release - maybe I should add it to my own Big Book Summer list! Can't wait to hear what you think!

    1. Hi Sue,

Started Americanah yesterday and it's quite catching. Glad I chose that one to start with.
You seem to be enjoying some excellent reads yourself!

  2. I haven't read Binchy in YEARS. I did enjoy her writing style.
